Job Description
Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Plan and structure the activities of Operations in order to achieve the overall objectives of the department 
  • Determine the manpower needs for the department based on the work load and work allocation and finalize these with the GM-Operations and Maintenance 
  • Provide periodic team performance reports to the GM-Operations and Maintenance in line with the established metrics 
Core Responsibilities: 
STP and Pumping Stations
  • Oversee and guide all activities related to the operations and maintenance of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP) and Pumping Stations in the assigned area and ensure they operating smoothly 
  • Monitor all aspects of plant instrumentation and equipment functionality in assigned plant in accordance with procedures and treatment process objectives. 
  • Ensure all STP’s and Pumping Station assets are operated in a safe and efficient manner, according to schedule and plan by carrying out first line maintenance 
  • Review and analyse operational data, maintenance reports gathered and oversee the preparation of regular process operational reports 
  • Supervise and monitor the activities of contractors involved to ensure compliance to agreed terms and established guidelines 
Sewerage and TE Networks
  • Oversee and guide all activities related to the operations and maintenance of sewage collection and TE networks in the assigned area and ensure they operating smoothly 
  • Monitor all aspects of sewage collection and TE networks functionality in assigned plant in accordance with procedures and treatment process objectives 
  • Ensure all sewage collection and TE networks assets are operated in a safe and efficient manner, according to schedule and plan by carrying out first line maintenance 
  • Ensure all issues of disruption in services due to failure of network such as bursts, overflows, blockages etc. are resolved in time 
  • Review and analyse operational data, maintenance reports gathered and oversee the preparation of regular process operational reports 
  • Supervise and monitor the activities of contractors involved to ensure compliance to agreed terms and established guidelines 
Other Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure routine housekeeping activities and equipment maintenance are performed and all difficult equipment problems and malfunctions are reported 
  • Prepare work orders as required and prepares work related reports, procurement requisitions, and data submittal requirements in an accurate and timely manner 
  • Evaluate work processes for efficiency and based on the evaluation establish efficient and effective work processes for each location within the assigned area 
  • Implement all QA systems including operational processes and procedures in line with established quality requirements and conduct periodic reviews to track progress 
  • Develop and establish proactive emergency procedures with clear lines of responsibility and authority for event escalation protocols, accurate recording of data and ensure continuous process improvement 
  • Develop, implement and manage a wastewater system asset attribute, condition data capture and verification process 
  • Ensure that the quality, health, safety and environment related requirements as applicable to performing the role are met at all times 
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures at all times as applicable to performing the role 
  • Compliance to QHSE procedures and familiarity with HS Risk, Environment Aspect Impact & Legal Registers 
People Management
  • Define goals, responsibilities and authorities for team members and ensure objective periodic administration of the performance appraisal process, provide feedback on an on-going basis 
  • Actively coach team members on opportunities for performance improvement and capability development and take actions to leverage people’s strengths, and develop them through different available means 
  • Identify skill gaps and organize trainings for the team on various aspects to ensure overall learning and development 
  • Follow all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures for all people management activities such as recruitment, induction, training and performance appraisals 
  • Develop a positive work environment and encourage teamwork Undertake ongoing communication regarding all actions, activities and other aspects to employees within respective team, as required

Educational Qualifications:
  • Master Degree in Mechanical, Process, Civil or Chemical Engineering OR a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Process, Maintenance, Civil or Chemical Engineering.
